Round 1 Bord Gais National Football League
Limerick V Offaly
Venue : Gracefield. 2pm.
Limerick got their league
campaign off to a winning start in Gracefield, Co Offaly on Sunday when a new
look team won on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-11. Limericks new management team will
be satisfied with this result but will realise that a lot of work needs to be
done if Limerick are to feature in the play
off stages of the national league.
It took Limerick, with many
new players on show, a while to settle into this game. The first point came
after 7 minutes, from Niamh Richardson, playing at mid field. Goalkeeper turned
full forward , Catherine Murphy scored a close range point after 18 minutes.
Offaly were dominating at this point but Limerick
managed to keep in touch with a fine point from Niamh Richardson. This left the half time score Limerick 3pts Offaly 8 pts.
Limerick knew they had to
up it in the second half if they were to make the journey worthwhile. Some
positional changes seemed to bear fruit when Paula Donnelly scored a goal. This
was added to by Niamh Richardson and a goal by substitute Sarah Downey brought Limerick right back into the game. Niamh Richardson who
was dominating at mid field added further points and subsititute Clare O
Riordan added a further point to see Limerick
run out worthy winners.
